Hey, there. Welcome to the Illusion of Gaia page on
bosses.
There are five bosses in the game. Freedan, Shadow, and I
fight them all, except the Sand Fanger, which Freedan never fights. Then, at the end, there's
one final battle with the Chaos Comet and Dark Gaia.
They all have forty Hit Points, which makes it kinda
hard.
No, it's actually pretty easy.
| Castoth |
 |
Believe it or not, this monster is actually the
easy one!
You can beat him with either Will or Freedan. S prefers
Freedan. He considers it common sense to fight with Freedan whenever the opportunity presents
itself. Anyway, whenever Castoth's hands are visible, you have to
hit them before Castoth himself becomes vulnerable. Freedan hits each five times before Castoth
moves them. Will has to hit them ten times. Shadow only needs to hit them once. Shadow can fight
Castoth near the end of the game.
After Castoth removes his hands, just stay in front of
him and dodge the flying projectiles. Castoth's eyes will widen eventually. When they do, slash
him in the face as hard and as fast as possible to damage him. Eventually, Castoth will stop
sustaining damage. Hey, "sustain." That's a Seth word!
Shut up, Lance. Anyway, eventually, Castoth will start
to shake. Run to the back of the room. He'll fire lasers in front of him, but he can't hit you if
you're behind him. You still have to watch the projectiles. Eventually, he'll die and you'll
revert to Will and get your energy back.

| Viper |
 |
This guy is actually kind of a wimp. He's not as hard to
beat as he looks.
You can fight him with Freedan, but I think you can use
Will too.
You'll probably be using Freedan when you reach the
battle, though, so don't worry about it. When you fight Viper, dodge the talons and attack
repeatedly. After a while, the talons get predictable, so dodging them won't be a big problem.
Keep slashing at Viper quickly, repeatedly, and relentlessly. Eventually, he'll go down.

| Sand Fanger |
 |
This is the Sand Fanger. He's actually pretty hard, since
only Will can fight him. Even if Freedan was fighting him, it wouldn't be that easy.
Will actually fought this monster because he wanted to
get to Lance, who was at the end of the wall. If Will could beat the Sand Fanger, he could get a
cure for Lance's father, who was sick. Also, if Will could reach Lance, Lance'd get a chance to
confess his love for me. Isn't that sweet? Anyway, when you fight Sand Fanger, be careful. You
want to go where the sand whirlpools are forming, because that's where the worm always jumps out.
Slash the Fanger when he jumps out to damage him. Watch out, though; you don't want to get in his
path. Once in a while, he'll lay eggs which hatch into little Fanger-lings which will go after
you. Whack them with your flute. Easier said than done, but that's all you can do. Eventually,
you'll beat the monster and get a chance to watch Lance confess his love to me.
Lilly, I love you.
Shut up, Lance. Nobody cares.

| Mummy Queen |
 |
You meet the Mummy Queen after the Jackal tries to kill
me. The Jackal dies. Serves him right for thinking he could defeat the Great Kara!
If I remember right, I'm the one who killed him.
Who cares? I'll explain how to defeat her. You can
fight the Mummy Queen with Will, Freedan, or Shadow. A lot of people think Freedan becomes
obsolete after Shadow becomes playable. That's not true. Actually, S the Great himself always
uses Freedan to beat the Mummy Queen. Each time you hit the Mummy Queen, she splits up into a
bunch of spirits. They will do one of two things: Disperse every which-way; Form a circle and
bounce all over the room. If they do the former, wait for them to reassemble. If they do the
latter, there's one vilnerable spirit in the circle. Hit that one and they'll reassemble. The
weird things on the ground are teleporters. Use them to go up a floor. Just make sure the Queen's
not waiting where you land! It's not an easy battle, and you'll probably need herbs. That's
all the advice S can give you that will help, though. Well, that and watch for falling
cinderblocks, but that's a no-brainer.

| Chaos Comet |
|
By the time you get to the Chaos Comet, I'm back in your
party. It's about time.
Shut up, Seth. You've had your fun. Now it's high time
the rest of us explain how to beat a boss in this game. We're tired of you hogging the webspace.
To beat this enemy, you fight as Shadow. Actually, all
the spirits of the people who died in our journey join with Will, who joins with me and Shadow,
thereby unleashing Shadow's ultimate weapon, the Firebird attack, which basically makes every hit
a long-range one.
This is the last battle in the game, and you fight it in
two rounds. First, there's the Chaos Comet round. The Chaos Comet is vulnerable when its face is
visible. When its mouth is open, hit it repeatedly. After this it will rain green fireballs. Use
the Aura to dodge that. Always stay just to the left or right from the center. Wait for a second
for the face to spit out the fireball again, and slash then. You'll see the cycle. Repeat about
five times and the monster will die, leaving you with the true boss: Dark Gaia.
Dark Gaia is the last boss in the game. S has a picture
of her here, but it's too big to put on the page. Expect attacks
from blue balls and sporadic bolts from the far sides of the screen. Destroy as many balls as
physically possible and use the Aura when Gaia's charging up bolts. When she cocks her head up,
that's the time to aim for the face. Don't take too long, though, 'cause in a second she'll use
this beam on you that hurts really bad. Keep hitting her when she cocks her head up, and keep
hitting those blue balls, and you just might win eventually. Then you'll get to see the ending,
which is actually kinda cool, but sad.
What is Dark Gaia anyway?
S thinks she's the malevolent sister of the Gaia who
always helped me out in my adventure. He says that's the only explanation he can come up with. He
wants to make a text-only sequel to this game like the one he's doing for Final Fantasy III.
